History of AIX

Aircraft Interiors Expo launched in 2000 in Cannes and has grown and expanded over the years, tripling the number of visitors walking through the doors, and finally finding its way to the aviation hub in Hamburg. Technological advances meant new features could be added and the show continued to develop. With the introduction of awards ceremonies, the Innovation Lounge, extra hall spaces and two sister shows, AIX has become the largest and most comprehensive global passenger experience event in the world.

2005

AIX is born in Cannes. Show moves to Hamburg, doubles in size and has 10,000 visitors.

2006

Introduction of entire cabin electronics hall

2007

Crystal Cabin Awards created to celebrate the very best in cabin innovation and design

2008

Reed Exhibitions manages entire show, showcasing developments from 27 countries

2009

10th edition of AIX and established the World Airline Awards as well as a steering committee for future shows

2010

Debut of Innovation Lounge. Over 7300 visitors, 852 representatives from 200 airlines visited the show

2011

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (the BMWi) included Aircraft Interiors Expo among its respected list of international trade fairs for the first time

2012

Reed Exhibitions launched World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo in 2012 co-located with Aircraft Interiors Expo

2013

Passenger Experience Conference launched in its own standalone venue at the CCH-Congress Center Hamburg, alongside both AIX & WTCE. Plenary sessions explored future trends and breakout streams

2014

AIX becomes largest and most comprehensive global passenger experience event ever staged, as Aircraft Interiors Expo expands from five halls to seven!

2016

530 exhibitors at AIX – with 145 companies exhibiting for the first time.

2018

Attendees reach record 14,000 and IFEC Zone is now World's biggest event dedicated to content and service providers

2019

Attendee numbers continued to grow, reaching 16,000. AIX continued to maintain its position as the destination for the cabin interiors industry.

2020

Following the Covid-19 pandemic the live event did not take place. Instead, we held a PEC Virtual Series featuring free educational seminars to help the industry collaborate and stay up to date.

2023

AIX returns to Hamburg Messe in 2023 to huge success and revitalised visitor and exhibitor numbers, highlighting its important place at the centre of an industry on the road to recovery and regrowth.
