Aircraft Interiors Expo 2017 launches with major announcements

6 April 2017, Hamburg – Twenty thousand visitors and more than 700 exhibitors have attended Passenger Experience Week in Hamburg; the world’s largest passenger experience event. Airbus, Flydubai, Mirus Aircraft Seating, Recaro, Panasonic, Paxlife and Thales were just some of the industry names making major announcements and showcasing their latest products and innovations from the cabin interiors, inflight entertainment and passenger comfort sectors. The following major industry announcements have been made by exhibitors at the show:

• AirAsia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Inmarsat for its next-generation GX Aviation inflight connectivity solution. The agreement covers AirAsia Group’s Airbus A320 and A330 fleets, subject to final contracts. Installation is expected to commence this year, with the service going live in 2018.

 • Airbus announced that it is developing a full spectrum of new Cabin Enablers for customers of its A380 airliner. It also launched Airbus Interiors Services (AIS), part of Serviced by Airbus, dedicated to supporting airlines with their cabin upgrade development strategies.

 • Air New Zealand launched Acro Aircraft Seating’s Series 6 seat. The seat is designed to be lightweight and spacious, with an additional 2 centimeters between seats for the middle passenger.

 • Akka Technologies announced that GE Capital Aviation Services has awarded the company a contract to overhaul cabins on 17 Embraer 170 jets through its repair subsidiary Aeroconseil. • Flydubai announced it had appointed JPA Design to design the cabin interior for the airline’s new fleet of aircraft.

• Gogo has been named lead supplier for Airbus’ High Bandwidth Connectivity programme. Further, SES announced new satellite capacity deals with Gogo to meet the growing demand for high-speed In-Flight Connectivity services on travel routes over the United States and Canada

 • Inmarsat declared that it had reached a milestone of 1,000 expected aircraft under signed contracts both installed and in the backlog for its next generation GX Aviation and European Aviation Network (EAN) inflight broadband services.

• Panasonic Avionics announced its NEXT TM inflight entertainment and communications (IFEC) platform – the company’s newest and most powerful IFEC solution. The NEXT platform is designed to help airlines overcome key challenges by transforming typically rigid entertainment systems into a flexible IFEC platform.

• Paxlife announced it is to provide wireless in-flight entertainment to Thomas Cook Group Airlines. The technology will allow content to be streamed to customers personal mobile phone devices.

 • Recaro launched its new business class seat CL6710. The ‘intelligent’ aircraft seat includes wellbeing features such massage capabilities, lighting and temperature settings.

• Starling Aerospace announced the launch of a new lightweight track and swivel seat designed for installation into both newer 16G aircraft and for retrofit into 9G aircraft from commercial to corporate and VIP applications.

• Mirus Aircraft Seating announced that its Hawk Long Range seat model, which is optimised for comfort on long range flights, is to be fitted across the AirAsia X fleet of Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
