What did I miss in 2015 - Day 1

#AIX2015 Day 1

At 9am the doors at the Messe opened and Aircraft Interiors Expo 2015 took off to a flying start as visitors made their way in through the doors.

With over 130 new exhibitors this year the show filled seven halls at the Hamburg Messe. Along with the impressive stands there was a wealth of innovative news announced by exhibitors.

We caught up with Reuben Arnold, Director of Customer Service at Virgin Atlantic who gave us an insight into what he’s up to over the next few days and why he thinks the show is a must to attend. See more here:

Airbus and Recaro Aircraft Seating announced that they plan to offer for the first time a “supplier-furnished-equipment” (SFE) Economy Class seat option for A320 Family operators. Vistara has selected BAE Systems’ IntelliCabin™ in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, which provides inflight wireless streaming of preloaded content to customers’ personal electronic devices across all three cabin classes in its fleet of A320 aircraft. The system also includes fully integrated Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets for business class customers. Panasonic also announced that China Southern Airlines, Asia’s largest airline, is to be the launch customer for Panasonic Avionics’ eXO system, the industry’s most sophisticated overhead in-flight entertainment system.

CabinSpace LIVE:

Nigel Duncan, CEO of STG Aerospace started the day by educating an audience on the STG Aerospace view of the cabin lighting covering natural light, ceiling and sidewall lights, floor path and emergency signage, reading lights, galley lights and more. Dr. Armin Klesing, Global Business Development Manager Aerospace & Composites at Solvay took to the stage shortly afterwards to provide an overview of the latest lightweight materials technologies that have been developed by Solvay.

In the afternoon Yoel Naor, Chief Products Officer (CPO) at Silentium LTD presented the quiet bubbles concept offer, the alternative solution to ANR headphone. He explained how by combining speakers in the seat shoulder and/or headrest and providing significant quiet environment it allows passengers to reach the destination much less exhausted.

Later on Werner Van Peteghem, Global Marketing Communications Officer at Recticel and Gary Hall and Chip Morrow from Soundcoat took to the stage. They discussed the benefits through two industry-proven examples that overcome the challenges of reducing costs while meeting the demands of lighter weight, greater comfort and impeccable safety standards. The Hybrid Cushion System improves passenger comfort while saving weight, providing structural support and reducing maintenance. For thermo-acoustic applications, such as environmental control systems (ECS) ductwork and thermo-acoustic fuselage insulation, Soundfoam® ML HY foams provide a lightweight, versatile and safety-enhancing alternative.

Later on:

The day doesn’t stop for all today as some of our exhibitors have invited other aircraft interiors attendees to network and celebrate the day at their stands. Not forgetting the Crystal Cabin Awards dinner otherwise known as the “Cabin Oscars” that also takes place this evening.

Two days to go:

Thanks to everyone who visited today, if you weren’t able to attend today or attended but weren’t able to get around the entire show, there’s still two more days to attend.
